Taking a work group out to the city's landmark places
Singapore has a handful of places that almost everyone in a workplace has heard of and most people enjoy visiting. Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore Zoo in Mandai, Gardens by the Bay and Sentosa each give a team day something that a hotel function room cannot: a setting people actually want to be in.
Those same places are also busy public attractions with their own rules, crowds and travel times. A group of forty colleagues behaves very differently from a family of four, and the planning has to reflect that.
What these notes cover
- Jewel with a group: moving a team through a busy shared space.
- A day in Mandai: travel, heat and etiquette around animals.
- Thinking time at the Gardens: using a garden for a retreat rather than a tour.
- Island days: getting a group to Sentosa and keeping the day on track.
Three questions to answer first
Before choosing between them, it helps to answer three questions. What is the day for: connection, recognition, a working session, or simply a break? How far is the place from where most people start their morning? And what will you do if it rains heavily at the moment the group arrives?
A landmark venue does a lot of the work, but only if the group arrives on time, comfortable and clear about the plan.
