Thinking time at the Gardens
A retreat does not have to involve flights. What a team usually needs is distance from the daily routine, and a garden can provide that without leaving Marina Bay.
Use the setting to change the mood
Gardens by the Bay offers very different environments within a short walk: open outdoor areas around the Supertree Grove, the cooled conservatories, and the waterfront. A retreat can use those changes on purpose. A focused working session in a meeting space, followed by a walk outdoors in pairs to discuss one question, often produces better conversation than another hour around a table.
Do not over-plan the agenda
The most common retreat mistake is filling every slot. People need time to think and to talk informally. A useful pattern is to alternate one focused session with one lighter segment, and to protect a long lunch.
Get Out! Events' guide to shaping a retreat agenda at the Gardens sets out a fuller structure for a one-day or multi-day programme.
A public garden needs more logistics
- Send exact meeting points, not just the name of the Gardens. It is a large site.
- Plan for heat and rain on any outdoor segment.
- Agree where materials, bags and refreshments will be kept.
- Check what is allowed for groups in each area before you design an activity around it.
Where to check
Opening hours, attraction access and group arrangements are set by the operator. See the official Gardens by the Bay site, and for wider park guidance, NParks.
