A day in Mandai
A day at the zoo has a quality that few venues share. People slow down, point things out to each other and talk about something other than work. For a team that spends most of its time in meetings, that alone can be worth the trip.
Distance shapes the day
Mandai is in the north of Singapore, well away from the business district. That distance affects start times, meal plans and how long people will be away from their desks. Many groups find a chartered coach from the office simpler than asking everyone to find their own way, especially for an early start.
Heat and rain
Most of the day is spent outdoors, under tree cover in places and fully exposed in others. Plan the more active segments for the cooler part of the morning, keep water close and make sure there are shaded places to pause. Afternoon storms are common, so know where the group will shelter and how the programme changes if it pours.
Current forecasts and heat advisories are published by the Meteorological Service Singapore.
Etiquette around animals
A zoo is shared with animals, keepers and other visitors, including many young children. A short briefing at the start sets the tone:
- Keep voices down near exhibits.
- Follow keeper instructions and posted rules at every area.
- Do not give food to animals or lean over barriers.
- Give families and school groups space on narrow paths.
This guide to visitor etiquette on a zoo team day covers the briefing points in more depth.
Check the official rules
Group admission, opening hours and any restrictions on organised activities are set by the operator. Check the Mandai Wildlife Reserve site before you plan.
